Yosemite!!!

So we went to Yosemite last Thursday, intending to stay through Monday. We packed up, survived 7 hours in the car with the kids and arrived around 5pm where we were greeted with dinner cooked by our wonderful camp mates! Lovely dinner, setting up camp, topped off the night with a campfire. Idyllic. Went to bed, about two hours later I hear pitter patter on the roof of our tent cabin. Hmmmm. Go outside, can't find my flashlight, so I proceed to bring as much stuff as I can into the tent patio in the pitch dark to save it from getting wet in case it really starts to rain. And rain it did. It let up a little in the morning, and we were able to eat breakfast, and get everyone together to hike over to Lower Yosemite Falls. When we were almost there it started to rain again... and didn't stop before we gave up and left Saturday morning :( They even threatened to evacuate us because our cabin was about 30ft from the Merced river, drain to the Sierra Nevada. Our engineer campmate measured it to be rising about 2 inches and hour. They did leave us there that night, but we decided to cut our losses, and went to Monterey for the last two nights of our vacation (Monterey post comes next). All in all, it was still worth the trip to Yosemite, just to be there long enough to see the trees, rocks and waterfalls and breathe the air :) Click on the pic below to go to the whole album of Yosemite pics.
