Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch

We went to Irvine Regional Park's pumpkin patch yesterday.  We rode the train, ran through the hay maze and got faces painted.  All in all a good time.

Sometimes waiting is not so hard

While we were waiting for our portraits, the studio had this prop in the waiting area.  Was quite enjoyed by my kids.

Not for the squeamish...

As most of you know already, Seth had his second sew-up injury on Tuesday.  He was apparently running on the sidewalk, tripped over another kid's legs and fell forehead first onto the sidewalk.  I got the call from school that he had cut himself, and it was pretty deep, and it needed to be "taken care of."  Uh Oh.  So I headed to the school.  The injury was unbelieveable, I didn't want to look at it too hard.  So I picked him up, called the pediatrician and headed over to the office.  Once there the first thing they did was take him back and a nurse cleaned the cut.  This was pretty much torture as you can see from the third picture.

Then they sent us back out to the waiting room, where Seth was amazingly calm.  We waited for a ridiculous amount of time, and then the doctor called us in and looked at the cut.

She wasn't sure if the would was too tight and too deep for them to sew up, so she called in a different doctor, and together they decided to send us to the plastic surgeon.  I was a little disappointed to have to pack up and drive to another office, but I figured it was good they were recognizing their limitations.  So we drove the 10 minutes to the plastic surgeon.  At this point Jeff met up with us, so that was good.  At the PS, the nurse immediately came out and smeared the cut with anethetic something or other.  And again, Seth was perfectly happy.  After a short wait, we went in and the doc and nurse did an amazing job keeping Seth perfectly calm to the point that he once exclaimed "that tickles!"  They covered it with a bandaid and we were off.  These next pictures are from the day after, when we took the badage off.  Really it was a very impressive job, considering the size of the hole he was sewing up.

ANyway, we will go back next Tuesday to get the stitches out, and I'm guessing there will be a scar for some time!

Happenings at the CSULB Library

Lest we forget that I spend a significant amount of time each week working my "real" job, here are some pics from the library over the last few weeks.  First off some interesting art has been displayed.  The first I didn't get a picture of, but my friend Jospeh did here.  Yes that is a giant Starbucks cup made out of used Starbucks cups.  I hate to know how many days it took the artist to collect cups, I fear too few.  This was only on display for about 30 minutes one lunch time.  Bummer, because I knew lots of people who wanted to  erm, knock it down.

Other art, apparently a pile of left over projects from an intro sculpting class.  This one has been around for a week or two now:
Another day I got to attend the opening of a week long Chinese Film and Culture Festival and see this Face-Changing performance.  It was very cool.  If you would like to see what it was like, check out this YouTube video.

A rainy day:

Then last week was the Great Shakeout, and here is another great picture by Joseph, of the library evacuation.

So while mostly I am at my desk, the reference desk, or teaching classes.  There are a few amusements at work.

Fun from the past...

Jeff's parents are having their house remodeled (by their illustrious contractor).  They had to move out completely.  One of the side effects of this was a few old treasures coming our way.  Here Davis is trying on Jeff's old headdress.  I may try to find a picture of Jeff wearing it, if I do, I will update this post.  Below is a picture of demolition of Jeff's childhood home.  Would anyone of you have fun tearing up your old house?

The upper left is Jeff's old room.  The living room fireplace is on the far right.
