Strike up the band!

Tonight we went to the Long Beach Municipal Band concert at Los Cerritos park. These summer concerts have probably gone on as long as most of us can remember.

Little known fact: my Grandfather was the French Horn player for the Long Beach Municipal Band for many years. It was, in fact, his paid career. A different era than the band today with its short season supported by the listeners (and volunteer band members!). See my granddaddy here with my mom (the younger) and aunt (I believe these photos were taken at their house in Wrigley around 1950):

Tonight at the concert, my boys:

For the past few years, Jeff and I have gone mostly to the Friday night concerts at El Dorado park, near where we live now. But it is actually the Los Cerritos concert that I went to most as a younger person (including meeting up with my boyfriend there in the 7th grade :) ) So tonight we were back there, and I truly enjoyed the smaller crowd, the "stadium seating", and the friends we met there. So expect to be seeing us there on Wednesday nights regularly throughout the summer.
See you at the park!
